NEPALI CULTURE/ FIRST SHOOTHIGH END/CLASSY - SECOND SHOOT
These images were taken in Charlton Park quite spontaneously as I wanted to see how something would turn out if I hadn't planned for it; they turned out fairly successful and much better than I anticipated. I think I could have used more contrasting colours for the 'models' clothing which I will incorporate into my developed version of this shoot. I liked the first few images which you could say is abstract as there are really 'dressed up' people in quite an unusual place.
TIM WALKER PICTURES- BOOKFor inspiration, I looked at Tim Walker's images in this book which he put together himself- these are all photos which aren't shown on the internet and gives us a stronger idea of what his work is about as he gathered all of these images himself to put together. I particularly like that his work does indeed show clothing in a whole new light which isn't your average matter. He uses lighting and colour really cleverly to create a dramatic effect and emphasise certain areas of the image rather than another. He carefully conducts his images, thoughtfully considering the background as well as foreground. I would like to base some of my upcoming shoots on this book as they are so quirky. I know this will require a lot of consistency and patience as there is so much to consider, however, I do feel that I could really make it work and add my own twist to it. I specifically
URBAN/STREETWEAR INTOThis shoot, again, was just a simple introduction of the urban/street wear type of clothing; I plan to take more images in public, using various key lightings and colours of clothing to create an abstract and bold seeming look. I feel that the white backdrop does make the images look slightly more 'professional' in a sense, however, doesn't really bring out any of the quirkiness I aim to do for the end of this project. As I said, this was only an introduction/starting point of the the theme so I wasn't really expecting any quirky images. I may use photoshop to change a few images up slightly, I did particularly like how I placed my models and the general concept of what I did, however, it was just very bland set of images.
FURTHER DEVELOPMENT VIA PHOTOSHOP
WHAT I PLAN TO DO NEXT:
This weekend, I aim to go out to Greenwich Park with a group of friends and take a set of images based on an Ethereal theme- almost like I did with my contrast project, however, I will make it quite a lot more unique in a sense that the clothing will be a lot more varied- using more bright, contrasting colours as well as ragged up clothing. I will use various different lightings in order to add a specific atmosphere within the image. The spacing around my photos will be bare and minimal as it creates a spotless, and almost refreshing feel to the image. These images were a practise of what I intended to do with my final piece, however, they turned out really well due to the composition and tones within the images so I will refine them to use as final pieces. I had changed the setting on my camera, making it black and white in order to really highlight the contrasts within the image.

I started to run out of time therefore decided to experiment on photoshop with images I had already taken rather than take new sets.
Final piece set
In order for me to make these images a set for my final piece, I had to change the exposure of them on photoshop as they were too over exposed due to the sunlight. I was aiming to go for something you may find on a magazine cover, which, I believe I have successfully achieved. Although the images had a natural contrast, I decided to bring out the juxtaposing tones further by playing around with the brightness and tones, too. I thought it would be a good idea to use a male model for this shoot as I quite liked the idea of putting an item of clothing which seems fairly feminine on a male to tackle the issue of gender stereotypes. I particularly like this set of images because of the strong contrasts, shadows and background. As a whole, the composition of these images are really great and within one image, there are many elements included. Also, I like the way I have placed my model to stand/sit. I have only chosen this one set for my final piece as every other bit of work I did wasn't exactly my style of photograph- despite me taking them.. Although I had many other plans and ideas of what I was going to do, I didn't have enough time to do them as I was taking too long with the images I took above, trying to 'introduce' an element of clothing rather than experimenting straight away and making things quirky like how I wanted them. I attempted to refine some images on photoshop, however, I didn't like them at all which is why I'm not using any for my final piece. I thought it would be much better to refine a successful image I had already taken rather than make a final piece for the sake of having more pieces.
My first shoot wasn't as good as I expected since I didn't plan it much- I rushed into the photos rather than carefully composing them( which I kind of did in all of the shoots), however, for something that was quite spontaneous- it didn't turn out too bad. The background with the champagne coloured curtains worked quite nicely with the traditional clothing. I did attempt to refine these images but nothing seemed to work nicely as the photos were already fine as they were, it's just the fact that they had no twist/quirk to it. Indeed, the clothing is presented well and this set of images does link with the theme, I feel that the composition and techniques within the image don't wholly represent my skills as a photography student which I have developed throughout the course. As I said before, the images would be even better if I had carefully conducted the background of them. The clothing style was slightly inspired by Phyllis Galembo as she often captures very traditional, cultural and colourful type of outfits within her images
